Mr. Caleb Paye Zeakehbay Gartei
Sunrise: January 24, 1964
Sunset: November 29, 2020
When peace like a river attended his way,
When sorrows like sea bellows rolled;
Whatever his lot, you have taught him to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul”
It is with deep regrets and sorry of heart that the Gartei family is announcing the home-going of our son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, grandfather, and dearly beloved, Mr. Caleb Paye Zeakehbay Gartei.
Caleb was born onto the union of Mr. Saye yini Gartei and Mrs. Yah tiawon vohngon Gartei on January 24, 1964, in Kpain town, Nimba County, Liberia.
He was educated at Kpain Public School (K.P.S), Yini School, Gboveh High School in Gbarnga city, and in the United States.
From childhood, he was a bread-winner for the gartei family. As he was instructed every morning by his mother, the then Junior high school student brought bags of cassava, corn, peanuts, peppers and other vegetables (depending on the season) to Kpain town, a 45 minute distance. He sold these items before or after school in order to buy cups of rice and soup kind which he would take to the farm for his mother to prepare the family’s only daily meal. This was his daily routine.
Caleb grew up to be a successful business man, starting with a table-top market in Ganta, which evolved into a well-known commodity store in gbarnga.
He resettled in the United States in 1999, where he worked for twenty-one years as direct client care provider (D.C.C.P) and uber driver to support his families in Liberia and in the u. s.
He died from the complications of open-heart surgery he recently underwent in Philadelphia.
Everyone that came across caleb says the same thing about him: He joked. He told funny stories. He made people to laugh to forget about their problems. He did not stress any situation. He did not make life difficult for anyone. He was a quiet, hard-working, peaceful, easy-going, and a family oriented man.
He leaves to mourn his memories: his father Saye Yini Gartei; his mother Yah Tiawon Gartei (predeceased); eight children (Tupee, Jeremiah, Clarnce, Jimmy, P. Allen, Calecia, Alicia, Abby); siblings, Mr. Michael Gartei (Lydian) , Yah Zowa Gatei, Robert Nyah Gartei (predeceased), Peter Wuo Gartei (predeceased), Pastor Zarwolo gatei (Margaret), Mr. Fohn Gartei, Yei Gartei (John Flomokoyah), Nohn Gartei (Gontorwon Gonkarnue), Koko Gartei (Christopher Selekpoh), Christopher Gartei (Mai), Rebecca Gartei, Ebenezer Gartei (Jamesetta), Nyah Roland Gartei (Rosetta), Moses Gartei (Rita), Emmanuel Gartei (Melanie), Eric Gartei (Fata), Konah Gartei (Wambo) and Fania Gartei; uncles (Mr. Nyah yadolo, Mr. Isaac zawolo, Rev.
